Public Outreach Coordinator for the Oregon State Capitol is my job title. But mostly I feel like Girl Friday — a little bit of this and a whole lotta that. I coordinate large-scale public events and also more intimate events like our Speakers Series. I do the PR and marketing for the building. It is nice because it is a non-partisan position, so I serve all Oregonians equally.
I have been working with Governor Barbara Roberts for her talk, which was held today. I have been able to talk with her on a few occasions during the time I have been employed in the building. She is a friendly woman, and is very personable. Roberts was Oregon’s 34th Governor, 1991 to 1995. The first woman elected to serve in that position. She had previously served as the majority leader of the house and for two terms as Secretary of State.
I really enjoyed listening to her speak. You can still watch the talk if you go to http://www.oregonlegislature.gov and go to the video page. I waited until she had signed every copy of her book for others and then stepped in to have her sign my book.
My boss was awesome and snapped a pic of me running Roberts through the program.
And after it was all said and done she graciously posed for a selfie!
